This Thanksgiving it was taken for granted that I would spend it with my friend Pat and her family. I'm very glad it was. This was a part of her family I hadn't met before, though of course I'd heard a lot about them. Very nice people, very welcoming, lots of people. A daughter's soccer coach and his family and an old Navy man who confused me a little. He has a condo in San Diego and kept mentioning that the bride had been out to see it. I figured he was referring to his friend who was the mother of my friend's girlfriend and then he asked if the minister was there yet. Why we needed a minister I wasn't sure. Until everyone was called into the living room and Pat's son proposed to his girlfriend and guess what? The soccer coach is also the minister and we have a wedding for dessert. They've apparently been together for quite a while and been counseling with the minister, so it was carefully thought out and planned.
Everyone I came with was caught by surprise. Pat and her daughter, who'd come down from Fort Worth, had no idea. His daughters had no idea. I heard one of them remark she thought he was going to propose and wasn't it a good thing she liked his new wife. But the ceremony was lovely, if informal, and I was struck by the thought that they were starting as they mean to go on. A house full of people, children running around, not quite getting that something special was going on, but adding to it by that very fact and dogs under foot. Not only my favorite Thanksgiving, but my favorite wedding too.
Unfortunately, I'm way behind on my NaNo. I'm currently running late to decorate the Chrismon tree at church and it's raining. And let's not discuss that state of my house and I just realized yesterday that I'm moving in two weeks. I'd put in a request for cleaning and packing fairies, but they'd only laugh at me and I've amused them enough for one lifetime.
Even though I'm far behind, I'm very pleased with my word count.
