Okay, I love tennis and the Australian Open 2005 just wrapped up. Lots of good tennis, lots of good matches. Ladies final was Friday night and Serena Williams won. I like Serena, but I was hoping Lindsey Davenport would win mostly because she's probably retiring soon. Same reason I wanted Tampa Bay to win the Stanley Cup. Of course, the stupid NHL wasn't supposed to strike. ANYWAY.
At the beginning of the Ladies match Friday, Serena had a bit of a physical problem, called the trainer out, went back to the locker room for treatment and came out and won the second and third sets. No problem. But it was reported that the problem was a "rib malfunction." It has been a while since I've taken biology and anatomy and physiology, but I seem to remember that the ribs function is to protect internal organs such as the heart and lungs. If this is the case, how can a rib "malfunction"? Even a broken rib is called broken, not malfuncitoning. If I'm wrong, please, please, please correct me. I don't mind not knowing stuff, but only if I can learn from it.
