As of last night, I am the proud mommy of two cockatiels. The friend who had them wasn't able to give them the attention they deserved, so knowing what an animal nut I am, she asked me if I'd be willing to take them.
Arthur, my oldest cat, gave them the "mommy loves me! she brought snacks!" look until I explained to him they were family and were not to be hurt. He then went and hung out by the front door. Ashley, the littlest kitty, made herself very scarce, but this morning when I went to check on them, she was curious. Until they fluttered around the cage, making a great deal of noise with the wings. Then she was out of there like someone had set her tail on fire. Which would be difficult, since as a Manx kitty, she has no tail.
Unsurprisingly to me, the one having the hardest time to adjust is Cosmo the Cowardly Canine. He's curious about them, but is of course having to be the loudest thing in the room to keep danger away. He seems to be getting a little better, but it's going to take time.
The birds aren't hand tamed and like being in the cage according to my friend, so having cats and Cosmo shouldn't be a problem.
I'd originally wanted love birds, but these guys are definitely paired up just as nicely. The male is named Sky and the female is named Puff, though being birds they care less about names than a full water dish and food. Since I was planning on putting up a poll to name the love birds, here's one for these guys.
