Had a full and interesting day yesterday. Met a friend for a Weight Watchers meeting. Loved the meeting leader. Very over the top in a good way and enthusiastic. Lots of work to do.

Did a little writing on a ficathon assignment that's due the 14th. Lots of work to do on that as well. Lots.

Also went to lunch and a play with a friend yesterday. Saw The Crucible at the Alley. Good production. Excellent use of the actors in the company. Several interesting things happened in the audience though. Before the show began, a lady sitting in the row in front of us, used a digital camera to take a picture. Not a cell phone with a camera, an actual digital camera. The house manager came over and asked her to erase the picture since there is a "no taking pictures in the theatre" rule. She did as asked, but didn't understand what the problem was since she wasn't taking a picture of the set or the actors or during the performance. My friend tried to explain it to her, since she's a theatre teacher. The woman then felt the need to point out that her son is an entertainment lawyer. IMO, in that case, she should have known better.

Since the performance we attended was one where teachers can go for free, there was a talk-back session after the performance. The actors come out and take questions from the audience that stays. The dramaturg who ran the session pointed out at the beginning that the session would be short because the actors had to get ready for the evening performance. Good intelligent questions for the most part, but towards the end, given the history in the play and of the play, someone asked what the actors would advise for keeping something like that from happening again. One of the actors said just read, gather as much information as you can and make your own decisions. Another said to get involved, join organizations and make your voice heard. At this point an audience member asked if that wasn't what started the whole HUAC thing in the first place. The actor responded that if they felt led to join the Communist party for whatever reason, then they had the right to do that. The audience member immediately shot back, and I quote, "No, they didn't!" Fortunately the dramaturg called the session at that point. I remarked to my friend that it was fun to go to the theatre and see more drama queens in the audience than onstage.

I love diversity. I love that not everyone thinks like I do. (Of course, I also think that the world would be a somewhat better place if people acutally thought before they did things.) But I am at a loss to understand people who feel that if you don't think, feel and believe the way that they do, there is something wrong with you. Is it just the threat that they would have to leave their insular little comfort zones, the fear of being proved wrong? I like learning new things. I like cognitive disssonance. I like expanding my mind and my heart to encompass the new things I've never thought or felt before. I'm weird and different. I like that too.

Gee, you get to do all sorts of neat things, whereas the highlight of my night was spilling creme brulee on my necktie at work. :-)

Just think of all the interesting things you do all the other time. Having to deal with stupid co-workers and tenants and boyfriends. I usually just have the guys and co-workers who are more into driving people crazy rather than being stupid. Mostly. G was back in church today. His insurance company is still being stupid. What is with the popularity of stupidity? Again, glad I never really wanted to be popular.

Narrow minded egotists do get old quickly, don't they?

It amazes me how some people think they are the only kind of people who have a right to exist...And then want to debate the evils of Communism or Nazi beliefs.

But at least they're good for a laugh.

And Communists and Nazis are wrong, whereas they are right.
